Soo Eagles vs Soo Thunderbirds 1-19-18

Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League rivals the Soo Thunderbirds and Soo Eagles met once again Friday evening and it was the visiting Thunderbirds that prevailed with a 4-1 victory at Pullar Stadium in front of a season-high 1,226 fans at Pullar Stadium. After a Nick Smith goal in the first for the T-Birds the Eagles tied it in third period on a goal by Jake Palmerio, before Noah Solinger would net the winning goal before Camaryn Baber and Braden King added insurance goals in a rough and tumble affair at the Pullar. Brandon Gordon turned in another solid performance for the Thunderbirds as he made 37 saves in recording the win while Shane Brancato faced 26 attempts in defeat for the Eagles.

The Game 1-18-18

Brimley Boys B-Ball vs Pickford 1-18-18

The Brimley Bays enter the halfway mark of the season at 8-2 in boys basketball, as after a close first quarter on Thursday night, they pulled away and topped the Pickford Panthers 64-53. Brenden Shornack led another balanced scoring attack for Brimley with 12 points while Kaleb Johanson had 11 and Sam Hopper added 10. Nick Edington and Jimmy Storey scored 16 each for the Panthers who fall to 5-5.

Brimley Boys B-Ball vs Rudyard 1-16-18

Every player dressed scored for the Brimley Bays boys basketball team on Tuesday night, as they routed the Rudyard Bulldogs 81-41. Sam Hopper and Kaleb Johanson each scored 16 for Brimley while Dylan Mills led the way for Rudyard scoring 12, as the Bulldogs fall to 3-6.

Soo Eagles vs Rayside Balfour 1-13-18

goal midway through the third period proved to be the game-winner as the Soo Eagles went on to defeat the Rayside-Balfour Canadians 3-1 Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Saturday at Pillar Stadium.  Rayside-Balfour did get on the board first, in the latter stages of the opening frame, as Kyle Liinamaa collected his eighth of the season at 17:45.  Sault Ste. Marie picked up the equalizer with five minutes remaining in the middle stanza compliments of Jacob Palmerio’s 17th of the campaign.  From there it stayed tied at 1-1 before Clark broke the deadlock half way through the third as he finished off the work of teammates Nick Techel and Bobby Price. The assist for Techel was his NOJHL-leading 60th point of 2017-18.  Christian Bardarson then secured the victory in the late going as he scored into an empty net for his team-best 28th goal of the season at 19:01 to round out the scoring.  Shane Brancato’s 33-save effort in net earned him the win for the Eagles while Brayden Lachance stopped 34 of 36 in defeat for the Canadians.

Soo Eagles vs Espanola 1-6-18

The Soo Eagles got three goals and an assist from Jacob Palmerio while Kobe Keller added a hat trick of his own to help send them past the Espanola Express 8-3 Saturday night in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Pullar Stadium. Shane Brancato had 21 saves in a winning cause for the Eagles.

Soo High Hockey vs Tri-Valley 1-5-18

Matthew Thurston had a goal and four assists, Aiden Armstrong had a pair of goals, and freshman goaltender Logan Rafaelle earned his second shutout of the year, as the Sault High Blue Devil hockey team won their opening game of the Bud Cooper Cooper Dental Showcase, with an 8-0 mercy rule win over the Tri-Valley Titans.

Soo Eagles vs Rayside Balfour 12-22-17

The Soo Eagles will remain in 4^th place in the West Division heading into the holiday break, as the Rayside Balfour Canadians topped them at home on Friday night 5-2 to remain in 3^rd, three points ahead of the Eagles. Jonathan Lakhani and Bobby Price had the Eagle goals.
